At Google I/O 2017, Google showed off Google Lens — a means to utilize computer vision and AI technology to allow your phone to understand what it sees. Unfortunately, Google did not specify when and if Lens will be made available as a standalone app, though it'll be incorporated into various products.
If you'd like to experience image recognition similar to Google Lens in concept, check out XDA Senior Member ace312's application called Glass. Glass allows your smartphone to identify objects in images, which you can either click through the app or upload an existing image from your gallery.
The app is limited in its accuracy due to its Beta nature, but works as a good proof-of-concept on what one can expect from smartphones in the future.
